There are many nightclubs and bars in the Bahamas, where you can enjoy local music, Caribbean rhythms and all the usual disco sounds. New Providence offers the best choice of such places around Nassau, Cable Beach and Paradise Island.
Several nightclubs and discos offer free entry for tourists or reduced prices with coupons, that you can obtain in several tourist publications. These places often organize special events like “Ladies Night” and offer special prices at “happy hour” on certain drinks. Some even have facilities for a late night dinner. A few nightclubs and discos are really hot, with lots of techno sound, rap, hip-hop or heavy metal, depending on the night-scene you chose. Others are very sophisticated, with multi-level dance floors, pool tables, games and several theme bars. Nightclubs of these kinds are also numerous on the island of Grand Bahama.
If you don’t like to jump around all the night, there are several places, pubs or sports bars, where you can watch a sports event on big screens or take part in a Karaoke contest if singing suits you more than dancing. For a less frenzy but more sophisticated night, take a look at the entertainment programs at the big resorts. They all have beautiful indoor an outdoor bars, some having stylish nightclubs with live bands playing island music and international hits. The ambiance and dress code in such places is a bit more elegant than in discos and sports bars. On the Family Islands, the easiest way to find a bar or nightclub is to look around near the numerous marinas and yacht clubs. These establishments are usually very laid back, in conformity with the general style and attitude of these islands.
Don’t expect much glitter, unless you head for one of the bigger resorts. Usually, you will enjoy island music, calypso, rake’n scrape and international songs played by a local band, in tropical outdoor settings. These are really the places of choice, if you look for that remote island feeling. In the Abacos, you find them mainly in Marsh Harbor: in the Exumas, around George Town, in hotels and marinas. In Eleuthera, go to Harbour Island, and in Bimini, there are plenty of bars in Alice Town. Visit the famous drinking hole of Papa Hemingway, but you may not be able to handle as much booze as did the famous writer, so take care: tomorrow is another day… |
