On New Providence Island, the two main retail areas are around Bay Street in downtown Nassau and on Paradise Island.

Bay Street is the prime shopping area in the Bahamas. Shops and boutiques offering all manner of duty free items line shaded walkways. This is the place to refurbish your stock of tobacco and renowned liquor brands. Don’t resist browsing some of the internationally acclaimed jewelry shops. The most glamorous gems, precious or semi-precious stones compete with the best brands of watches for your attention. Even though diamonds are forever, affordable alternatives are offered as well: a nice pendant with rubies or emeralds on a golden chain can cost you less than one hundred Dollars. And you can bargain!

Even if you can resist the glitter of jewelry, trendy leather goods, like designer handbags and shoes, certainly may tempt you or you might consider that chic little haute couture piece that would look so good on you at tonight’s candle light dinner…

Don’t forget to buy your favorite fragrance in one of the perfume shops.
